In this course, we learned valuable information on how we should interact with the internet. This was taught through various articles and discussions that were maintained throughout the course. We also create our own blog, where we made various posts on a chosen topic and made our own content using web-based and downloadable tools. Throughout the course, we also picked up on a variety of skills, such as:

  • How to construct a website using WordPress
  • Basics of a blog genre and style and writing a blog
  • Basics of  running a successful blog
  • Curating materials for followers
  • How to use Medium to write collaboratively
  • How to edit images using GIMP and other software
  • Learning to use novel creative websites via online tutorials and previous knowledge
  • How to make videos with basic effects, voiceovers, and music in Premiere Pro
  • Programming languages such as HTML and CSS

“This course takes a hands-on approach to exploring reading and writing in digital (Web) environments. Students in the course consider ways that digital writing environments create opportunities for writers to address multiple audiences, to bring together visual and alphabetic texts and to involve readers in the construction of those texts. Students in the course will develop a variety of digital texts, including blogs, websites, and wikis. Students’ work will be collected in an e-portfolio designed and assembled over the course of the term. This course is an elective for the English major and minor, the Writing minor, and the Interdisciplinary Studies in the Humanities major. 3.000 Credit hours”
